Back pain is an extremely common, very complex and often multi-factorial condition, which is remarkably prevalent. Back pain may occur in any part of the spine, from the cervical (upper) spine through the sacrococcygeal (lower) spine. Although the cause of back pain is often difficult to conclusively diagnose, it is usually the result of a degenerative or inflammatory condition affecting the various parts of the spine.
These include: disc disease, facet disease, muscular strain, vertebral instability, nerve impingement and to a lesser extent infectious and neoplastic conditions. One or more of these factors is often responsible for back pain symptoms.
In our Pain Management Center, Dr. Anil Narang consults directly with patients experiencing back pain. Using their history and physical examination, which is often followed by an imaging study such as X-ray, CT or MRI, Dr. Narang attempts to find the exact cause of the back pain.
When a patient is referred to Clinical Radiologists Pain Management Center for an image-guided pain procedure, Dr. Narang gathers and reviews all information available. All of this data is then assimilated and used to determine the best procedure to treat the source of the patients pain, rather than just the symptoms. |
