Preparing for an MRI (or MRA) |
You will be asked to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing without any metal clips, ties or belts.
Because MRI uses a strong magnetic field please notify our staff prior to your exam if you have a pacemaker, artificial heart valve or any other metal inside your body. Be sure to remove all jewelry prior to your exam.
Depending on the type of exam you may be asked not to eat or drink anything for 3 hours prior to your exam.
Please contact our office if you have any questions about the preparation for your MRI.
|
You will lie flat on a cushioned table that will slide into the MRI scanner. A technologist will monitor your exam at all times and will communicate directly with you through a speaker system.
A typical MRI exam takes approximately 30 – 45 minutes. The MRI scanner will periodically emit loud noises similar to knocking sounds. For your comfort music CD’s may be played, or you may choose to wear ear plugs, which we will provide at the time of your exam.
Once the MRI is complete one of our radiologists will interpret the results and report the finding to your physician.
